Some places have that magic – they arouse longing, tell stories and feel like a journey to another world. Our new campaign motifs by Mathieu Persan capture exactly this feeling: a place that stays in your mind – the LAGO on Lake Constance.
Who is Mathieu Persan?
Mathieu Persan is an illustrator and lives near Paris. He mainly designs book covers for renowned publishers and works with newspapers on editorial illustrations. He also designs posters for brands – or simply for himself when a topic moves him. He shares these works on his social networks. He finds his inspiration in classic poster artists from the 1930s to the 1960s, including AM Cassandre, Saul Bass and Alvin Lustig.
“I’m very inspired by everything that happens in the world. I often have the urge to create an image when something moves me,” says Mathieu. “I use social media like a public billboard to share my work with others.”
The art of Mathieu Persan
Mathieu works with a unique technique that combines traditional and digital methods. While his creative process begins with paper and pencil, his final works are created entirely digitally. “I first sketch by hand to structure my thoughts. The actual implementation then takes place in Adobe Illustrator – and exclusively with a mouse,” he explains. “This may be unusual, but it allows me to achieve a particular precision in my work.”
His style is characterized by clear lines, bold colors and a retro aesthetic reminiscent of the poster art of past decades. “I love playing with shapes and compositions to create a balance between nostalgia and modernity,” he says, describing his approach. “I want my pictures to evoke emotions and transport the viewer to another world for a moment.”
From Paris to Lake Constance
For the LAGO campaign, Mathieu Persan embarked on a journey of discovery to Constance – in search of the special moments that make this place special. His work is still a well-kept secret, but one thing is certain: the elegant illustrations will capture the magic of being, stylish, dreamy and yet completely in the here and now.
Mathieu’s first impressions of Constance? “I was very surprised by the beauty of the lake and the city. The architecture and landscapes are impressive. I was particularly fascinated by the LAGO shopping center – it’s modern, clean and a place where you simply feel at home.”
